RETURN TO AEROBUS HOME PAGE
From the listing placed in Ebay:   Pat McGrath Chevyland is a large Chevrolet dealership in Eastern Iowa is selling this 1966 Checker Aerobus, one of 245 produced in 1966. Our dealership owner bought it in 2000 and has used it in parades, weddings, etc since then. I would be surprised if 1,000 miles were put on it in this time. I have no idea what the actual mileage is. I don't know much about these Aerobuses and am learning more everyday thanks to the net. Here is what I do know: We put a GM Goodwrench long block in it in 2000. It has a 4 barrel Rochester Quadrajet and intake from an older Chevy truck. It was originally a 3 speed manual, but is now a 3 speed automatic with a B&M shifter. The transmission came out of the same truck the transmission did. We added a 12 volt alternator and had some work done on the drive-shafts. We did a fair amount of front end work with new sway bars, idler arms and tie rods. The bumpers and front grill were re-chromed, although the grill is starting to pit a little. We had seatbeats added to the rows and did some body work and then painted it. It was not a restoration by any means, but made presentable for its intended use, parades, etc. The auxiliary heaters were blocked off and the A/C is not working or hooked up but there is a compressor. The brakes are not power assisted and were converted from a single to a dual master cylinder. New brake shoes were installed. There is power steering. The Aerobus does run well, but I don't know that I would take off across the country in it. All the lights work, as do the wipers and horn. The drivers side 1st and 2nd row windows are cracked. The seats are in fair condition and have cheaper covers on them.  The undercarriage appears to be solid as do the body mounts. The tires are in good shape, however the two rear hubcaps have come up missing. There is a battery cut off switch under the hood. That is pretty much the extent of my knowledge.  The GM tech who worked on this Aerobus has been with us a long time and is still here, so I might be able to get more info from him, if I know what to ask him.
